Jennifer A. Herdt

Brief biography: 

Jennifer Herdt has published widely on virtue ethics and ethical formation in early modern and modern moral thought, including Assuming Responsibility: Ecstatic Eudaimonism and the Call to Live Well (2022), Forming Humanity: Redeeming the German Bildung Tradition (2019), and Putting on Virtue: The Legacy of the Splendid Vices (2008). She served as the 2020 president of the Society of Christian Ethics, and for eight years as the Senior Associate Dean of Yale's Divinity School. Her current research focuses on nonhuman ethical capacities in the context of science-engaged theological anthropology. Jennifer Herdt is the mother of two Yale College students and an avid runner, hiker, baker, and choral singer.
