Davenport College Council (DCC) is a student government body that discusses and resolves issues within Davenport College. During our weekly Monday meetings, we receive updates from representatives to the Yale College Council, Yale Social Activities Committee, STEP Coordinators, TIES tutoring, Freshman College Council, Davenport Social Activities Committee, Intramural Sports Secretaries, Dive Managers, Cultural House Representatives as well as the Master and the Dean of Davenport. The Council seeks to foster community and engage students in discussion on improving the quality of life in Davenport.
Davenport Social Activities Committee (SAC) organizes most social events in Davenport. Our Fall semester events include (but are not limited to): Davenport Screw, Take Your Professor to Dinner Nights, Broadway Trip, Movie Nights, Tailgates, Community Hours, Night at the Repertory Theater, trips to the mall, baseball games, apple picking, etc. Spring semester: Ski Trip, Opera (Met) Trip, John Davenport Day, and most of the smaller events listed for the Fall semester. Davenport Student Activities Committee meetings are on Mondays at 8:30 in the Common Room, and it is followed by the Davenport College Council meetings at 9:00pm.
Food will ALWAYS be provided. A student does NOT have to be an elected representative or on the executive board member to attend and participate in the discussion. Meetings are very informal and student-input based. DCC/DSAC always need more people to help out and we'd love to see you at our meetings and events!
The Davenport Pops Orchestra, endorsed as a residential college orchestra, was founded by a group of Yale undergraduates in the spring of 2005. The orchestra is currently supported financially by Davenport College. As a student organization, the orchestra aims to make the orchestra experience accessible to as many undergraduates as possible, both those who play instruments and those who just like to listen. While there are a large number of student orchestras at Yale, most groups focus on classical music; with this in mind, the Davenport Pops Orchestra hopes to expand the musical offerings of the Yale community - and appeal to a wider audience than is usually targeted by classical orchestras - by offering programs of well-known popular music. The Davenport Pops plays a wide variety of music, with repertoire that includes film/TV scores, Broadway, jazz, popular classical works, cultural genres, and original student works. Check out the Davenport Pops Orchestra Website for more info.
Davenport Photography Group consists of students with a common passion: photography. The group meets regularly to show and discuss their own photography as well as the works of famous photographers. The Photo Group frequently takes trips to take pictures. Past destinations have included New York City and Holy Land USA.
